SuperStar Gemini’s “Twins ToWin” photo contest garners hundreds of thousands of public votes


10 most likeable twins to join inaugural cruises in Sanya / Shanghai 



Hong Kong, 5 December, 2012 –Twins ToWin”, the twins photo contest launched by Star Cruises to celebrate the upcoming SuperStar Gemini, was well received by the public as hundreds of thousands of online votes poured in to pick the top 10 twins photos from 14-28 November.

The top 10 most likeable twins photos were selected from 20 shortlisted photos. In the final round, public votes accounted for 40% of the weighing while Star Cruises’ votes accounted for 60%.  The photogenic top 10, from toddlers to adolescents, come from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan. Each pair of the top 10 twins is entitled to two cabins on the newly-renovated SuperStar Gemini on her inaugural cruises in Sanya (1-3 February) or Shanghai (April)1

Star Cruises is pleased by the public support for the “Twins ToWin” campaign and the quality of the photos and has decided to add an offering of 10 more consolation prizes of one complimentary 3-days-2-nights cruise on SuperStar Gemini in Sanya to each of the other 10 twins in the 20 shortlisted list.2

Launched in October, “Twins ToWin” called for the most likeable photos of twins across the globe. The twins photo campaign resonates fittingly with SuperStar Gemini, named after the Greek mythological and zodiac twins and is undergoing a US$ 50 million multi-faceted major refurbishment.  The 50,764-tonnage SuperStar Gemini will commence her inaugural cruises from Jan 2013, starting with deployments from Penang (2 - 24 Jan) and a 7 days / 6 nights special cruise (25 Jan – 31 Jan) to Singapore / Ho Chi Minh City / Nha Trang / Hong Kong. The vessel will soak up the tropical fun in Sanya from 1 Feb to 31 March. From April to Oct 2013, the vessel will commence her summer homeport deployment in Shanghai offering over 40 cruises in 4D3N to 7D6N itineraries to a number of highly popular destinations in North Asia.  

SuperStar Gemini’s US$50 million refurbishment will include upgraded navigational systems, new hull artwork and onboard facilities, including cabins, restaurants, entertainment and recreational venues, retail & bodycare outlets. The vessel will also immerse guests in a resort-at-sea environment with a shopping haven that promises a broad range of upmarket duty-free wristwatches, jewellery and handbags amidst idyllic and blissful cruise voyages.

Star Cruises celebrates its 19th Anniversary on Superstar Virgo with style

Singapore / Hong Kong, 20 November, 2012 - Star Cruises, the leading cruise line in AsiaPacific, celebrated the company’s 19th anniversary with strategic business partners, media, travel agents and valued guests on SuperStar Virgo in Singapore. With a special two-night 70’s-themed cruise called “It’s a Great World” (16-18 Nov), Star Cruises showed its deep appreciation of the public’s support and contribution to the company’s success.

From Singapore Cruise Centre linkway to Parthenon Pool on the open deck, SuperStar Virgo was transformed into a 70’s retro haven styled after Pasar Malam (Night Market) offering guests an opportunity to relive nostalgia in kampong lifestyle, local delicacies, old school game stalls and street performances. Guests grooved into the party mood at the specially-arranged 70’s bash “Retro Fever Party”, where they dressed up in colorful outfits, punk wigs and glitter makeup. The guests were treated to a walk down memory lane when Hong Kong pop / R&B singer, Alex To, hit the stage with tunes of the 70’s era. Guests were also amazed by the magic tricks performed by world renowned magician and illusionist, Charles Bach, at his “Underwater Escape” show.

Star Cruises Honors Travel Agencies in India



Star Cruises staged a glitzy and glamourous gala dinner in Mumbai on Nov. 9 recognize outstanding performance by the company's travel agencies in India.

"Star Cruises has recorded encouraging growth in India in recent years, with the number of Indian passengers increasing 44.5% from 2008 to 2012. This success can be attributed to Star Cruises' deep understanding of Indian travellers' holiday and MICE preferences. More importantly, our success in India is also made possible by the robust network of travel agency partners through which Star Cruises' fly-cruise and cruise packages are promoted to the Indian market," said Mr William Ng, Star Cruises Chief Operating Officer.

He continued, “We are grateful for our partners’ continuous support and look forward to working together in further developing the market. Together we will strive for the continued growth of the cruise industry in Asia-Pacific.”

The gala dinner and award night, themed "Night of the Stars", was an occasion for Star Cruises to highlight the commitment and ingenuity that travel partners have devoted to the company.

Attended by more than 200 tourism professionals from different parts of India, the dinner was officiated by Mr Ng, Mr Michael Goh, Star Cruises Senior Vice President, Sales and Ms Vivian Sim, Genting Hong Kong Senior Vice President Corporate Communications & PR. The dinner was also graced by Ms Clara Yap, Area Director, South Asia, Singapore Tourism Board and Mr G.B Srithar, Area Director, South Asia, Singapore Tourism Board, Mr. Sethaphan Buddhani, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Mr Zulkifli Mohamed, Deputy Director, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board.

At the dinner, the 12 preferred sales agencies were recognized with Best Partnership Awards (Travel Tours Pvt Ltd, Thomas Cook India Ltd, Kuoni Travel India Pvt. Ltd, JTB Travels Pvt. Ltd, Gainwell Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Guideline Travels LLP, Globotel Pvt. Ltd, Discovery 21st Century Agencies Pvt. Ltd, D Pauls Travel & Tours Pvt. Ltd, Ark Holidays LLP, Cox & Kings Ltd and Club 7 Holidays Pvt. Ltd). Based on their sales performance, five of these agencies were named the Best Travel Agency (5th Position - D Pauls Travel & Tours Pvt. Ltd, 4th Position - Thomas Cook India Ltd, 3rd Position - Travel Tours Pvt. Ltd, 2nd Position - Guideline Travels LLP, 1st Position - Ark Holidays LLP).
