Tips for Planners:

Have a defined purpose for the event. Determine who the attendees are, why they should attend, when the best time of the year to hold the event is and which is the best location.
Have a realistic planning timeline. In general, cruise bookings require more lead time than resort bookings on land.
Set a realistic budget. Rates for a cruise are somewhat different from rates for a hotel or resort. Variables such as season, ports of calls and arrival/departure dates must be considered.
Planners should know that if they book their cruise direct from the cruise line, they will be working with the cruise line's corporate office which is not aboard the ship.
Have the foresight to know when you need to hire professional help in planning all aspects or a portion of the event. Pick a company that has a background in the industry or specialises in cruises. It is important to be familiar with what can and cannot be done on board a ship.
