Star Cruises deploys newly refurbished SuperStar Virgo on Hong Kong-Taiwan route

The newly refurbished SuperStar Virgo, renovated at a cost of USD 19.7 million, was showcased to the Indian travel trade on the new Hong Kong-Taiwan route last month. Star Cruises hosted members from the Indian travel trade, including Preferred Sales Agents (PSAs), and the media for a FAM trip on the ship, which now offers additional world-class facilities. From now on, Star Cruises will be operating SuperStar Virgo, which used to be homeported at Singapore, from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung in Taiwan.

At 75,338 grt, SuperStar Virgo is the largest cruise ship in Star Cruises’ Asian fleet. The 13-storey ship offers 935 cabins with 1,870 lower berths. The full range of facilities include 13 restaurants and bars offering various cuisines and beverages, performing arts theatre, karaoke, cigar lounge, swimming pool, water fun pool and jacuzzi, beauty salon, rock-climbing facilities, gym and meeting rooms. The entertainment programme onboard SuperStar Virgo caters to guests of all ages. SuperStar Virgo is 268-mtr long, 32-mtr wide and cruises at an average speed of 24 kn.

Star Cruises offers two itineraries onboard SuperStar Virgo. From Monday to Wednesday, the ship sails from Hong Kong to Sanya in China and Halong Bay in Vietnam, while from Wednesday to Saturday it sails between Hong Kong and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.

Hong Kong celebrity chef Kenny Chan teams up with SuperStar Virgo’s award-winning chef team to design more than 20 dishes for the ship’s Tuesday gala dinner and four restaurants—Noble House, Pavilion, Bella Vista and Mediterranean.

Chef Chan has tailored more than 20 dishes for the acclaimed restaurants on board. At premium restaurant Noble House, guests can try his award-winning masterpieces Stir-fried Prawn with Wild Mushroom (TVB “Apprentice Chef”: 1^st Round Champion) and Wok-fried Crabmeat and Rock Lobster with Salted Egg Yolk on Rice Crackers (Hong Kong Tourism Board The Best of the Best Culinary Awards Stir Fried Category: Gold with Distinction Award). The master chef has also crafted items for the Tuesday gala dinner and the three inclusive restaurants on board—Pavilion, Bella Vista and Mediterranean. SuperStar Virgo sets regular trips to Sanya from April 7 to Oct 26

The SuperStar Virgo, Star Cruises’ flagship cruise liner in Asia, began its six-month seasonal deployment in Hong Kong on April 7, 2014, offering cruise itineraries to Sanya, as well as to the appealing tourist destination Halong Bay in Vietnam. 

Between 7 April and 26 October, the SuperStar Virgo, will be setting sail for Sanya and Halong Bay weekly from Hong Kong on a 4 day 3 night itinerary.

SuperStar Gemini attracts 130,000 cruise visitors during Sanya deployment

The SuperStar Gemini, a cruise ship from Star Cruise, finished its seasonal deployment from Sanya to Vietnam on March 25. The cruise ship attracted more than 130,000 tourists, a 14% increase compared to the figure of 114,000 during the same period last year. 

On 16th October 2013, the Italian cruise ship Costa Victoria called at the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal, kicking off the 2013 autumn and winter season of Sanya’s cruise tours. 

During that period, the cruise SuperStar Gemini and Italian super 5-star cruise Costa Victoria used Sanya as homeport to open their international routes. 

The number of cruise ships to visit Sanya has been continually increasing since the establishment of Sanya‘s homeport business. According to the Sanya Maritime Bureau, the number of cruise ships visiting Sanya reached 152 during the third seasonal cruise homeport deployment period.

CCCT students visit Superstar Aquarius Ship

AROUND 30 Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT) students, comprising those from Diploma in Information Technology and Skill Certificate 2 in Business Administration accompanied by six lecturers recently went on an educational trip to the luxurious Superstar Aquarius Ship at Muara Port.

The visitors toured and observed the facilities and services that the ship provides. They were also given a briefing by various heads of the departments concerning its operation, facilities and entertainment provided to passengers.

Made possible with the collaboration of the Star Cruises Management and the Brunei Tourism Industry, the trip was aimed at highlighting the choices of job opportunities available. It was also to open up the minds of the younger generation to be less selective in choosing a job.

Nisa Abd Rahman and Yana Abba, representing the Business Faculty of CCCT also highlighted that this visit was aimed to give students a new learning experience from their usual classroom environment.
